Rock Your Senior Portrait Session: Tips from Your Go-To Photographer!

Hey there, future grads! Getting ready for your senior photo session? I’ve got your back! I’m here to spill all the tea on how to make your session shine. From finding the coolest spots around Arizona to picking outfits that scream YOU, I’ve got you!

When you book with me, you’ll receive lots of help including a 30+ page guide to help you choose the perfect outfit and locations. I also include things like color palettes, places to shop, and shared Pinterest boards.

Here are just a few of my favorite tips you can find in this guide…

Wear something that creates movement!

Wearing an outfit that is loose and flows opens the door to being able to do tons of poses. Another great idea is to wear your hair down!

The most obvious option is to wear a dress, but some other options are wide leg jeans, bringing a denim jacket or a skirt. One of the poses your photographer could use are, “hold onto your dress and swing it back and forth as you walk towards me.”

Your photos will look so much more beautiful and interesting when you are able to add the element of movement.

Be aware of bright/bold colors and patterns

Patterns are often a controversial subject when it comes to photo-worthy outfits. Too-bold of a pattern can distract from your face, but a softer neutral pattern can give your photos so much life!

I don’t mean that you have to wear something tan or white. I love color!!! I just want you to be aware of what colors/patterns might be too much. For example, neon green, highlighter yellow, and bold patterns will distract. If you have any questions about whether a color or pattern is too much, reach out to your photographer! They will know what colors look best with your location and their editing style.

Patterns and textures are a great way to add depth and make your photos more interesting. Soft, neutral, subtle patterns photograph well at any location!

Bring props, sports jersey, or college tee!

Some of my favorite photos I’ve taken of seniors have been with their jerseys, basketballs, and future college tees. Your hobbies are such a big part of your high school years and they should definitely get some love during your session.

Consider bringing your jersey, future college tee, mission flag, or even your football helmet!

Wear something you love and feel confident in!

At the end of the day, it all comes down to wearing what you’re comfortable in. I can tell when you’re uncomfortable in your outfit, and guess what?? It shows in your photos! This is the last thing you want to happen. It doesn’t have to be tricky! Choose something you love that makes you feel confident and yourself. This will ensure that your photos are representing you!

When seniors book with me, we dive deep into everything they need to create their dream photos. I curate poses that feel totally natural to them and capture all the dreamy golden Arizona sunset goodness on the day of your session.
